FAQ #2: What Type of Cargo/Freight Do You Ship?

If you follow our blog posts, and we hope you do, you likely read the first in our FAQ series, What is Air Freight Forwarding?

This month, we’d like to move on to FAQ #2: “What type of cargo/freight do you ship? As it states on our FAQ page: “We ship a variety of inanimate objects for various clients in different industries. We have the experience and expertise to transport massive equipment and large inventory shipments under extreme conditions.”
Here’s what we ship:

  • Engines
  • Inventory Shipments
  • Mechanical and Electrical Equipment
  • Replacement Parts

Most people, when they think of the term “shipping,” associate it with more “every-day items” that can be purchased online and sent to your home address. Well, our shipping lists look a little different than that because our specialty is Heavy Lift Air Cargo. We ship heavy cargo that supports a number of different industries in Alaska. For example, one of the primary industries we support is Alaska’s Commercial Fishing Industry. In fact, Alaska Air Forwarding began as a buying service for the fishing industry and over the years, that has shifted to what we do today: Freight and Cargo shipping.

The Commercial Fishing Industry is the primary industry in Alaska and therefore one that requires continual support. One of the most challenging aspects of supporting this industry is the need to ship while boats are out to sea. It is not uncommon for boats to break down in the middle of the ocean, during the peak of their fishing season, and require large replacement parts to be shipped to them as soon as possible. These are the kinds of needs that we are able to meet quickly and efficiently because we have the capability to ship large items such as engines, gear boxes, replacement parts as well as other mechanical and electrical equipment.

In addition to supporting the Commercial Fishing Industry, we also support Alaska’s Film and Entertainment Industry. In recent years, Alaska has become a favored place for filming. The varied landscape of Alaska as well as the state’s generous tax credit program are two qualities that have attracted the film industry. However, filming in Alaska can also present its challenges, thanks to the rugged terrain and the harsh weather. This is never a problem for Alaska Air Forwarding. We are able to ship entertainment and production freight to the most remote parts of Alaska making us a preferred shipping company for this growing Alaska industry.

Construction and Engineering cargo is another type of freight we ship. General contractors and engineers rely on Alaska Air Forwarding to ship their needed products and equipment. The construction industry is a thriving industry throughout the state working on both new projects as well as projects designed to repair and improve the infrastructure that takes a beating during the winter. Whatever the nature of the project is, we can quickly and efficiently deliver any cargo that is needed for that particular construction project even in the harshest weather conditions.

Although heavy lift cargo is our specialty, we support a number of other industries that don’t require heavy cargo but do need to maintain inventory and supplies. Below is a list of some of the other types of inventory we ship at Alaska Air Forwarding:

  • Restaurant Inventory and supplies
  • Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare Products
  • Clothing
  • Computers

So, to answer FAQ #2, what type of cargo/freight do you ship? Basically, we can ship pretty much anything except live animals.
