Reality TV: Alaska Style

If you’re into Reality TV, then you know how addicting these types of shows can be. The following is a list of Reality TV shows currently airing on The Discovery Channel.

Alaska: The Last Frontier
Alaskan Bush People
Bering Sea Gold
Edge of Alaska
Yukon Men
Flying Wild Alaska

Each of these shows is set against the beautiful back drop that is Alaska and each has garnered a loyal following of viewers since they have been on the air. If you’ve ever wondered what life is like in Alaska, any one of these shows offers a very realistic, albeit different view of life in Alaska. This is definitely Reality TV Alaska style.

FILMING IN ALASKA

Alaska has always been a beautiful backdrop for film and, thanks to generous tax credits offered by the state, has become a favored filming location in recent years. As wonderful a place as Alaska is to film, it does pose its challenges such as harsh weather conditions as well as parts of the state that are more remote and difficult to access. For example, the town of McCarthy, which is the setting for Edge of Alaska, is an extremely secluded town, surrounded by wilderness and is home to fewer than 50 residents. In fact, there are approximately 100 miles between McCarthy and the nearest law enforcement office. This is what we mean when we say there are remote places in Alaska and this is just one of many examples throughout the state.

Despite the fact that Alaska has its challenges, this has not deterred producers from seeking out opportunities to film and this has opened up opportunities for Alaska Air Forwarding. In recent years, we have supported many film projects in Alaska and thanks to our ability to work even in remote areas, we have been the company of choice for many in the film and entertainment industry. In fact, we recently had an LA based production company reach out to us with a very urgent need:

“A Los Angeles production company needed to get their camera equipment into Alaska and onsite the next day or lose an entire day of shooting. Time was of the essence. The production manager called Alaska Air Forwarding Friday night at 10:00pm. We were able to respond quickly and schedule a pick up truck at 4:00am Saturday morning. The production company’s equipment was on location that same night and ready for the shoot the next day.”

This is just one example of how Alaska Air Forwarding is able to quickly and efficiently transport equipment to Alaska.
